Masyarakat Iktiologi Indonesia (MII), or Indonesian Ichthyological Society (IIS), is a professional organization that accommodates individuals concerned with fish (Pisces), including researchers, lecturers, students, non-governmental organizations, entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, and other fish observers.

MII is a non-profit organization established on June 6, 2000, in Bogor, with Notarial Deed No. 01 dated December 1, 2014, and officially recognized under the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights No. AHU-0000019.AH.01.Year 2015 dated January 6, 2015.

The MII logo features the coelacanth (Latimeria menadoensis), known as a living fossil because its existence on Earth predates the dinosaurs, dating back 400 million years.

The National Seminar on Fish Biodiversity was held in Bogor, initiated by researchers from PSIH Institut Pertanian Bogor and the Research and Development Center for Biology, LIPI. During this seminar, the importance of establishing an organization to unite experts, scientists, practitioners, and fish enthusiasts was highlighted, with the goal of advancing knowledge about fish and providing a platform for exchanging information. On the same day, seminar participants agreed to establish the Indonesian Ichthyological Society (MII).

2002

MII held its first National Fish Seminar in Bogor, in collaboration with the Center for Biological Research (LIPI) and PSIH LP-IPB. Alongside the seminar, the first MII Congress took place, during which Dr. Soetikno Wirjoatmodjo was elected as chairman.

The fourth National Fish Seminar took place in Jatiluhur, in cooperation with the Fisheries Stock Enhancement Research Center (BRKP-DKP), the Center for Biological Research (LIPI), and the Department of Aquatic Resource Management (FPIK-IPB). During the second MII Congress held concurrently, Dr. M.F. Rahardjo was elected as chairman.

The event was supported by the Biology Research Center of LIPI in Cibinong, the Freshwater Fisheries Breeding Research Unit BRKP-KKP, the Fisheries Aquaculture Research Unit BRKP-KKP, and other sponsors such as REAKON, IRATA, CV. Maju Akuarium, IWF, and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science USNI.

Jurnal MII

MII also publishes a regular journal called Jurnal Iktiologi Indonesia (JII), which is issued twice a year. JII was recognized as an accredited scientific journal by the Directorate General of Higher Education, based on Decree No. 64a/DIKTI/Kep/2010 regarding the Accreditation of Scientific Journals (Period II 2010), effective until November 2013. JII regained its National Accredited Scientific Journal status according to the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 040/P/2014, dated February 14, 2014, valid from November 2013 to November 2018.
